PRIVATE HEALTH INSURANCE

PRIVATE HEALTH INSURANCE

While many people believe that employer sponsored health insurance and Obamacare are the only options for their health insurance coverage, that is not the case. Nowadays we have so many options for health insurance to fit the needs of every budget. Our brokers are contracted with 100+ insurance carriers offering thousands of plan options across the nation, we will find the right fit for you! Private health insurance plans have many great benefits and are not restricted to an enrollment season. Many policies can go into effect within 24 hours of submitting the application. While these plans offer highly competitive rates and flexibility, they do require medical underwriting. Our most popular and well loved private plans are the core Short Term Medical plans and private medical plans compliant with the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and plans that meet the Minimum Essential Coverage (MEC).

Short Term Medical

There are many reasons our clients are searching for private health insurance coverage. Many do not qualify for a subsidy through the Healthcare Marketplace, and thus, are looking for a more affordable option. Some who are outside of an enrollment window or in-between jobs want only temporary coverage. With plans ranging from 1 month to up to 3 years, short term medical plans give consumers the flexibility they need while still keeping them protected. These plans are also typically PPO networks, meaning larger network of doctors and plan area, as well as both in and out of network coverage. There are some limitations with these plans: preventive care is not covered 100%, mental health services are typically not covered, maternity is not covered, have limits on maximum benefits annually. These plans are most popular among healthy individuals and families, small business owners, and those needing coverage for a transitional period.

MEC Plans

What does MEC mean? Any health insurance plan that meets the requirement of, or is compliant with, the Affordable Care Act is considered a MEC plan. MEC stands for Minimum Essential Coverage. Essential health benefits required in MEC plans include:

  • Preventive services

  • Outpatient care

  • Emergency services

  • Hospitalization

  • Pregnancy and maternity care

  • Mental and behavioral health treatment, including addiction therapies

  • Prescription drugs

  • Rehabilitative care

  • Laboratory testing

  • Pediatric care, including oral and vision care

These plans do not have a limit to coverage or duration. Once enrolled in the plan it is guaranteed renewable until one decides to leave the plan.

Fixed Indemnity Plans

Fixed Indemnity plans are a health care product that can be a great option for the right client! They are different from health insurance, but they can be used on their own or injunction with a major medical plan. It is important to speak with an independent insurance broker to be sure a Fixed Indemnity Plan is the right choice for you. These plans offer a fixed benefit amount for each service covered by the plan. At times this amount may cover the service in full, they may cover a portion and you pay the difference, and sometimes the fixed amount is more then the service and you actually make money for getting your health taken care of. This can be a great option for young healthy individuals and as a supplement to protect your finances against out of pocket costs with your major medical plan.
